DIY Natural Hair Treatments

Trying to grow your natural hair can be an expensive, tedious, and discouraging process. It involves so many exhausting treatments and tricks and nothing seems to ever work. Using natural products from your own kitchen is sometimes more effective than anything else. Here are 4 DIY Natural Hair Treatments!

  1. Avocado Pre-Poo Treatment

Avocado is known to be a Superfood. It contains oils and proteins that are moisturizing for your hair without being too much. For this treatment, smash up half an avocado with a few drops of peppermint essential oil. Shampoo hair, rinse, and apply. Let the concoction sit for about 15 minutes then rinse thoroughly. To enhance the treatment, you can add further moisture by adding oil, egg yolk, or yogurt to the mixture.

2. Banana + Olive Oil

Bananas can truly do wonders for your hair, and the process is easy! Mix a banana with 1 tbsp of olive oil and mix them together until the banana is pureed, like a smoothie. After that, massage it into your hair and leave the treatment in for 30 minutes. Then rinse and carry on your regular wash-day routine!

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is known to smooth and clarify hair, while stripping it of dirt and product buildup. After shampooing and conditioning, mix a tbspn of vinegar and ½ cup of water, then apply to your hair. If you don’t like the smell, add a few drops of an oil of your choosing to get rid of it! Let it sit for about 5 minutes and then rinse thoroughly. Add a couple of drops of essential oil if the smell is too much. Comb through hair, let it sit for five minutes and then rinse.

4. Aloe Vera and Olive Oil Pre-Poo

This is a very popular nourishing hair and scalp treatment.  Just take a fresh aloe leaf and cut off 4 2 inch thick sections (more if you have very thick hair).  Cut the sections down the middle, then part our hair in sections and rub the aloe gel on the scalp.  Just rub the gel with your finger nail if it seems to get dry on you.  You can also scoop the gel from the inside of the leaf and blend it up in our blender.  After you distribute this well in your hair and massage onto your scalp, apply olive oil to all the sections.  You can sleep in this over night, or put a plastic cap on and leave in for a few hours before washing.  This mixture is calming to the scalp and moisturizing to the hair! Wash with a moisturizing shampoo, and condition as usual!
